Patient Engagement

Patient Engagement in Healthcare

Patient engagement involves patient partners throughout a program evaluation or different stages of a research project, from designing the research questions to knowledge mobilization. Patient Oriented Research (POR) in healthcare, similarly entails a research project led by a multidisciplinary team to meet patient-identified priorities and improve patient outcomes while engaging patient partners in the research continuum (ABS Portals, n.d.).

Patient Engagement Improves Quality of Care

The importance of collaborating with patient partners in healthcare research and evaluations to improve the quality of care received by patients is recognized by healthcare providers, policymakers, and researchers worldwide (Kaur & Pluye, 2019). Moreover, current literature showcases that patient collaboration in healthcare research and evaluation improves patient health literacy and awareness, treatment quality, healthcare services, and patient quality of life (Marzban et al., 2022).
